Adenoid and tonsil diseases are common health problems usually seen in children and sometimes in adults.
A. Adenoid (Adenoid Hypertrophy): It is a tissue located at the back of the nasal cavity, in the space behind the nose. It usually becomes inflamed and grows as a result of infections. This can cause symptoms such as nasal congestion, runny nose, snoring and sleep problems. Treatment usually involves medication and, if necessary, surgical intervention.
B. Tonsil Diseases (Chronic Tonsillitis): Tonsils are lymphoid tissues located on both sides of the throat. Tonsillitis (tonsillitis) is most common. This condition is characterized by symptoms such as sore throat, difficulty swallowing, fever and swelling of the neck lymph nodes. In cases of chronic tonsillitis, the tonsils may need to be removed (tonsillectomy) because of recurrent infections or breathing problems.
These diseases are usually caused by infections and can be controlled with appropriate treatment. However, it is important to consult an otolaryngologist in cases that require treatment.
